Blacktown City Festival offers a super mega month of events

Knights in shining armour , a street parade and top musical talent are among the highlights of the newly announced program for the 2024 Blacktown City Festival . Blacktown City Council is providing a jam-packed schedule of free and ticketed events throughout May , featuring arts and culture , children ’ s activities , comedy , sport and much more .
The festival program is available at blacktown . nsw . gov . au / festival . Ticketed events are on sale now .
The opening weekend includes the Super 6 Blacktown City Youth Games on Saturday 4 May and Sunday 5 May at Blacktown International Sportspark .
Young people can test their skills across six events for the chance to be crowned Super 6 Youth Games Champion . Some Festival highlights include :
• Vibes by the Lake . A perfect picnic opportunity with musicians performing and fine food available from food trucks . Sunday 5 May . Nurragingy Reserve , Doonside . Free entry .
• Blacktown City Medieval Fayre . Medieval pageantry and pomp that promises to amaze and delight . The jousting competitions and Birds of Prey Show are not to be missed . Saturday 18 May and Sunday 19 May . Nurragingy Reserve , Doonside .

Box Hill ’ s Terry Road set to undergo transformative upgrade
A significant infrastructure upgrade has commenced on Terry Road , Box Hill to create a more resilient and accessible route for residents and commuters after years of persistent flooding .
Terry Road closed between Monmouth Drive and Hedgewood Drive on Tuesday , 2 April 2024 to raise the road ’ s surface and increase drainage capacity under the road . Works are anticipated to take between six to nine months to complete .
General Manager of The Hills Shire Council Michael Edgar said this upgrade was necessary after years of road closures on this troublesome stretch of road .
“ Over the past six years , Terry Road has been closed twelve times due to flooding ,” Mr Edgar said . “ We understand that this closure will be frustrating , however the ongoing works will make the road safer and significantly reduce the risk of vehicles getting stuck in floodwaters .
“ The upgrade will also equip Terry Road to support our expanding Box Hill community and the growing number of people using this road , as well as the traffic expected from users of Brindle Parkway Reserve once it has been constructed .
“ We ask residents and commuters to drive to the conditions of the road closure and thank them for their patience .”
During the closure , detours will be in place for light and heavy vehicles . Light vehicles and buses will be detoured via Brindle Parkway and heavy vehicles will be detoured via Mason Road and Old Pitt Town Road .
Construction progress is highly dependent on wet weather , as this work is being carried out in an area already prone to flooding .
