Awards nights always bring out the absolute best of the best , that ’ s what they ’ re designed for . It ’ s to highlight the exceptional throughout the year . This particular presentation awards ceremony was up there with the Oscars , Academy Awards and even the Logies or Footy Show Awards nights .
Banjo Piggott-Wright , the coach and coordinator of the fastest growing and most innovative touch football team in north western Sydney , Razzle Dazzle , brought the glitz and glamour and a splash of Hollywood to Vikings Sports Club in Dundas for a black-tie awards night .
It was a well-deserved reward for all the players , their families and supporters , as well as your author , for one of the great nights on the Sydney sporting landscape .
It was a who ’ s who in the world of touch football to celebrate another amazing year of Razzle Dazzle touch football which is fast becoming the talk of the town in the Hills district . The team have made inroads into a well-established market and after another successful year in 2023 at Somerville Park in Epping , they will be opening their wings and heading to one of the biggest and most competitive Oz Tag competitions at Crestwood Reserve in the Baulkham Hills Bulls Summer Competition .
Most of the players and supporters turned up to the event of the year dressed to the nines . It was a good chance for me to dress in my best clobber and I looked as flash as a rat with a gold tooth ! And I stood out like a diamond in the ruff as I made my way into Vikings Sports Club .
Many of the players turned up in two-piece suits dressed like they were ready for their five minutes of fame on the Hollywood red carpet . I had the privilege of picking up an Appreciation Award and Razzle Dazzle club emblem for helping promote them throughout the year , which was fantastic . They also gave thanks to their dedicated group of official supporters who follow them passionately through thick and thin .
Banjo ’ s meticulous planning ensured that all the elements and contributions of everyone involved throughout the year were recognised . He paid homage to his dedicated leadership group which included his brother and captain Breaker
Piggott-Wright and Charlie Khawly , the determined and resourceful vice-captain . Razzle Dazzle went through several player milestones for achieving so many games with the club .
Like any awards ceremony , there were some interesting speeches and a long list of varied awards for the different achievements and contributions throughout the year . The Breakthrough Player of the Year was Josh Hinchcliffe . Most Improved Player went to Tanami Piggott-Herridge . Top Defender went to Matt Newsom-Smith , and Top Try Assister and Try of the Year both went to Breaker Piggott-Wright . But everyone was there to see the big awards .
The Leading Try Scorer of the Year , the Player ’ s Player Award which carries great prestige and the Player of the Year awards . The Leading Try Scorer award went to the fleet footed Josh Hinchcliffe who scored 15 tries , which is a season record for Razzle Dazzle and shows that his sizzling pace was up there with the best in the competition .
The Player ’ s Player award was presented to the affable Joe Tharion who played six games with Razzle Dazzle in 2023 and is loved by everyone . He scored eleven tries , had two try assists and made 52 defensive touches when it counted to keep Razzle Dazzle in most of the games .
And the big gong , the Player of the Year award went to Charlie Khawly who played 10 matches , picked up a very handy nine tries , contributed six invaluable try assists and made 59 crucial defensive touches .
It was a fabulous night had by all and the team are looking forward to the new challenges in 2024 !
