Volleyball ’ s popularity as an Olympic sport spans the globe , and in the heart of the Hills District Baulkham Hills Volleyball boasts its own vibrant volleyball community , centred at Baulkham Hills High School .
Spearheading this movement is Joe Sleiman , the driving force behind the club . His journey began with a deep-rooted love for the sport , cultivated over thirtyfive years of playing and coaching experience both at social and representative level .
Joe has poured countless hours , passion , and determination into running and building Baulkham Hills Volleyball since its inception in 2003 , when the newly built three-court gymnasium was built at Baulkham Hills High .
Today , twenty-one years on , Baulkham Hills Volleyball stands tall as one of Sydney ’ s premier clubs , boasting a thriving social membership base , catering to both juniors and adults , male and female . The weekly schedule is packed and the club offers training sessions and competitions across various categories .
The Open Social Competitions are graded A , B and C and are held on Sunday , Monday and Tuesday evenings . There is a Junior Social Competition on Sunday afternoons as well as a Women ’ s Social Competition on Tuesday evenings .
The club also offers Social Training sessions for Juniors and Adults on Saturday ( two sessions ), Sunday and Tuesday afternoons at Baulkham Hills High as well as a late Friday night session at North Ryde RSL Youth Club .
Joe ’ s passionate approach to organising trainings and competitions ensures that every player has a fun experience and is given the opportunity to develop and progress within the sport . Emphasising the importance of community and player development , the structure Joe has implemented consists of a comprehensive set of standards , rules , and policies designed to instil loyalty and pride in the players . As an example , all representative players are only selected from the social players participating in the social competitions .
The Representative Program ( Excel ) consists of weekly training for the Division 1 , 2 and 3 Men ’ s and Women ’ s teams and U / 15 , U / 17 and U / 19 Boys and Girls teams

competing in local , regional , and interstate tournaments .
Additionally , Baulkham Hills Volleyball organises and runs about eight one-day competitive tournaments ( Sydney Cups and Mixed Nuts ) throughout the year , offering clubs and teams of all levels the chance to highlight their skills and enjoy the camaraderie of the sport . The club ’ s flagship , the BHV Rep Super League , provides a formal and competitive league that is officiated by the NSW Referees Association , running from September to November .
Baulkham Hills Volleyball has helped develop a large number of representative players that have gone on to higher representation at state and national level .
The success stories of former club members serve as a testament to the club ’ s developmental achievements . Players like Arash Dosanjh , setter and Nehemiah Mote , centre blocker , have gone on to represent Australia on the national team and on the international stage at professional club level , displaying the calibre of talent nurtured within the club .
Current aspiring players such as Robert Murdoch ( U / 23 ), Matthew Lorenzo ( U / 19 ) and Maliha Flexman ( U / 15 ), have been able to achieve the highest representation at school level ( CHS ) as well a state level for their respective age groups .
Many other juniors are also following in their footsteps as they reach their potential .
Baulkham Hills Volleyball operates all year round with four season / school terms of social competitions and regular weekly training sessions thriving as a vibrant hub for volleyball enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels . With the burgeoning popularity , especially with the kids , Joe happily admits that he is the cheapest babysitter in Sydney !
