EDUCATE ME Honouring the past COVID-19 has brought about so much change in education during the first six months of this year and particularly online learning has changed the teaching and learning environment for both staff and students, almost overnight in some cases. Graham Anderson is Principal of Arden Anglican School. “I am sure some aspects of education will never return to methods of the past. There is much to celebrate about creating the future of education, whilst also honouring the past,” Mr Anderson commented. The school has begun preparations to celebrate 100 years of education in 2022 and recently uncovered this photo, one of the oldest surviving images of the school. It was taken in the early 1920s when the school was first established as a development of PLC Croydon. On close inspection you can see the year 1924 written on the ball held by the girl in the centre of the frame. Alana McAllister is Arden’s Community Engagement Co-ordinator and told us, “These students are standing on the steps of the Presbyterian Church Hall in Welham Street, Beecroft - this was the first campus of what is now Arden Anglican School.” In the lead up to its centenary, Arden A 1924 photo of the Presbyterian Church Hall in Welham Street; the very beginnings of Arden Anglican School. has developed a special website for their alumni, and they are encouraging former students and staff to join the digital platform to connect and network with others as well as share their personal and career stories. There is even a business directory component to help promote their products or services to both past and current members of today’s school community. Arden is seeking historically significant memorabilia from members of the public who may have taught or attended the school, especially in the period 1922 to 1950.
