STAND-UP SHOUT OUT
The ‘Stand-up Shout out’ Hillcrest division is a place for people that care
about what is going on around them and in the world in general. It embraces
the thinking of those who have a problem with injustice or foul play, racism,
wrongful discrimination, and oppression. Whether such oppression is meted
out on animals or people, it is still unjustified and that is why we are at the
forefront of the conservation of wildlife as well as feeding the hungry. We
envisage our role as that of creating awareness about important issues in
the world; we want the world to prioritise certain issues because they have
an impact on our wellbeing. SUSO is therefore the home of change makers
where we dream about a better world and go out there to make it happen.
This year, we focused on recently extinct animals through the “12 Species
in 12 Years” campaign, raising awareness around this topic by introducing
the school to the problems faced by conservationists around the world in
protecting animals. We held several sporting activities around the school
so as to simulate the process of capturing poachers as well as the practice
of protecting animals. Furthermore, we held a photo campaign to show
the different extinct animals in today’s society and to display the continued
support of the students towards rangers in the Nasuulu Conservancy to
whom SUSO donated equipment.
As much as we are vocal about change and raising awareness, we seek
to be the change and to act on the problem at hand with the help of our
community. We like to Stand-up and Shout out!
