Field Hockey
U14 Girls
The U14 girls’ team gave a good
account of themselves and sent a
warning of their intent in the 2018
season where they will have graduated
to being the U15 team. They played
6 league matches in total and won
3, drew 1 and lost 2. Being their
maiden year in secondary school,
the team holds a lot of promise and
they bring with them the kind of
talent, passion and enthusiasm that
is easily associated with sports at
Hillcrest School. They were grouped
with U15 teams and therefore their
achievement is no mean feat and is
worthy of all accolades. Apart from
playing in the league, the team were
also semifinalists in the Peponi School
U14 girls’ field hockey tournament.
I must commend the Captains, Sara
Bottura, Anesu Mlambo and Chelsea
Matu, for leading the team with
passion and by example. They had a
retinue of talented strikers in Joan
Njuguna, Nina Redinger, Anna Nora,
who were lethal forwards and took
every chance that they had in the D
area to convert the shots into goals.
In the midfield, Chelsea Matu, Sara
Bottura, Dorris Nsanzimana and
Florence Bierens were a formidable
team with Chelsea and Sara doing
most of the spade work showing
their excellent stick work skills. At
the back, Anesu Mlambo stood
tall and was indefatigable. Rosa
Kimweli, Mumbi Maina, Ashley
Karanja and Chiara Roux ensured
that they supported her as her fellow
defenders. The goalkeepers, Sia Were
and Rachael Hurn, were not to be
left behind; they both showed a good
understanding of the tactical aspects
of the game and were instrumental
in ensuring that Hillcrest kept up the
onslaught. Well done to the team for
their effort and teamwork!
U15 Girls
The U15 girls have come a long way
and improved immensely as the
season progressed. They showed that
they were not a push over and were
one to watch throughout the season.
In the 2017 field hockey season,
they played 6 matches; won 4 lost 1
and drew 1. This gave them a ticket
to the much coveted top 4 position
out of 12 teams. We had our chances
but unfortunately had to bow out of
the championships in style and with
our passion for hockey slammed on
our foreheads. The team gave a good
account of itself and represented
Hillcrest in the most honourable
manner possible ably led by the
Captains Miracle Denga, Michelle
Harderwijk and Lillian Sorensen. I
would like to tip my hat off to this
Back Row Left: Elsa Marrian, Michelle Harderwijk, Fartun Hosh, Yvonne Kimani, Ms Dorcie Agundah, Mariam Kimutai, Luca Humphreys, Shivangi Krishna
