Fairy Creek Falls trail follows Fairy Creek along gently rolling singletrack to a waterfall. Explore the lower slope of Mount Proctor through creek side meadows and forest. This familyfriendly trail provides an opportunity to explore nature with kids, though it has some short steep sections that can be challenging for chariots or strollers. Use caution during the spring season, as the creek water levels can be high. Please respect habitat restoration signs and do not climb next to the falls.
Location & Details
Park at the Visitor Centre located at 102 Commerce Road on Hwy 3, east of town. The trailhead is marked with a large information sign at the parking lot. Dogs are permitted on this trail, but should be on leash and should not cross into the fenced grazing area upslope of the trail. Follow the signed trail markers until you reach the falls and a bench from which to enjoy the picturesque view. There are several mountain bike trails in the area, so watch for bikers. For more adventurous hikers the Fairy Creek Trail is part of the Mt Proctor loop.
Did you know … The Fernie Visitor Centre is located at the base of this trail and offers comprehensive information about Fernie, free Wifi, indoor washrooms and locally produced gifts & artwork. Check website for hours of operation.
This newly paved trail is accessible to a diversity of users and includes river and mountain views, shaded picnic areas and a scenic duck pond, and it can take you all the way to Mt Fernie Provincial Park. It also connects onto the Great Northern Trail leading to James White Park. Both the Fernie Valley Pathway and Great Northern Trail are suitable for strollers and there are public washrooms located in all the adjacent parks.
Location & Details
Park at the Visitor Centre off Hwy 3 and follow the paved trail south along the highway. After crossing the bridge, follow the trail heading downstream all the way to Bridge Bistro. Here you can take the West Fernie Bridge underpass to connect onto the Great Northern Trail that will take you through Dogwood Park boat launch to James White Park. This section of the trail is not paved. To stay on the paved Fernie Valley Pathway, turn left before the underpass and get on the bridge( without crossing the highway) to cross the Elk River and continue to Mt Fernie Park Road. Watch for Food Trucks sign along Hwy 3 and stop for a coffee or delicious lunch.

This adaptive trail leads to the Montane Hut via an easy, wide gravel trail, allowing various levels of trail users to enjoy views of the spectacular Lizard Range. The trail travels through forested sections before opening up to wide valley views in all directions. Once reaching the Montane Hut you can relax and savour the surrounding landscape from the viewpoint bench. During cooler weather, you can warm up inside the hut. This trail is suitable for chariots.
Location & Details
Easy Beaver is part of the Montane trail network. The trailhead is located on Montane Parkway. From downtown take 4th Street across the train tracks, then turn right on Pine Ave. Continue past the Fernie Aquatic Centre and the bridge across Coal Creek, then turn left onto Montane Parkway. The Montane Trailhead will be on your left with ample parking, trail information and a portable toilet. Follow the wide trail and signage to Montane Hut. There is a new pit toilet located by the hut. This trail is within private property with access granted by the Montane landowner, Parastone Developments.
Did you know … Montane trail system is a popular area for cross country skiing, fat biking and snowshoeing in the winter season.
Located within the Mt Fernie Provincial Park, Sherwoody and the Provincial Park Connector Trail can be combined as a loop. The trail includes a few small bridge crossings and ascends to a viewpoint. The Lizard Creek flows through the park before forming a beautiful little waterfall. A wide variety of plants & wildlife can be found in the area, along with a variety of family friendly trails. Sections of this trail are not suitable for chariots.
Location & Details
Mt Fernie Provincial Park is located 3km west of Fernie. Travelling on Hwy 3, the turn-off to the Mt Fernie Park Road is located across from the Stanford Resort. At Mt Fernie Provincial Park, take the first left to the day-use parking lot. The trailhead begins at the far end of the parking lot and leads down to a small waterfall and bridge. Over the bridge, the trail gains elevation through lush forest to a scenic viewpoint and bench. Further on at the intersection, take the right branch and follow the Sherwoody trail until it intersects with the Gorby trail – take the right branch to the Gorby bridge, and then follow the Connector trail back to the Provincial Park.
