Two Ferrari’ s, a 1960 250 GT Cabriolet Series II, styled by Pinin Farina, a 1964 250 GT / L Berlinetta Lusso by Scaglietti and two Alfa Romeo’ s, a 1955 1900C SS Speciale by Boano and a 1921 G1, are among the approximately 160 pre-war classics, sports, racing greats and contemporary supercars to be offered at RM Sotheby’ s two-day 19th-annual Arizona auction, January 18 and 19, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix.
Preview days are Wednesday, January 17, 10 a. m. to 8 p. m. MST, Thursday and January 18, and Friday, January 19, 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. MST daily. The car auction begins Thursday and Friday at 5 p. m. MST and finishes up each evening at approximately 9 p. m.
The Arizona event includes“ A Century of Sports Cars,” eleven automobiles offered without reserve from a California collector. From this group is the 1921 G1, chassis no. 6018, the first model produced from the union of A. L. F. A.( Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) and entrepreneur Nicola Romeo. Built to compete against the world’ s best, the G1 was Alfa Romeo’ s first six-cylinder model and is one of just 52 built.
Twice awarded at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance, most recently in 2013, this only complete G1 in existence also participated in the 2014 Mille Miglia and the 75th Goodwood Members Meeting and was displayed in 2015 at Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena, Italy.
The 1955 Alfa Romeo 1900C SS Speciale, with coachwork by Boano, chassis no. AR1900C 01846, was Boano’ s 1955 Torino Motor Show car and returned to the stand at the 2014 Retromobile in Paris and again the following year during the invitation-only Preservation Class at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance. Expertly restored and returned to its original color combination, the beautifully sinuous car just won its class at Pebble Beach in 2017.
The Blue Sera-over-Beige 250 GT / L Berlinetta Lusso, chassis no. 5537 GT, received a cosmetic restoration in 2013, immediately gaining it Best in Class at the 2014 Arizona Concours d’ Elegance. And, the 1960 250 GT Cabriolet Series II by Pinin Farina, chassis no. 1939, is the 39th of just 200 second-series Pinin Farina Cabriolets built and was completely restored in 2000.
“ With the highest overall sales, sell-through rate and number of cars sold above low estimate during Arizona Car Week in 2017, we intend to continue our strong track record in the New Year,” says Shelby Myers, car specialist for RM Sotheby’ s.
The bidder registration is $ 200, which includes a catalog and admission for two to the preview and auction. Admission to the preview is open to the public during preview hours only. Admission to the auctions on Thursday and Friday is for registered bidders, consignors and qualified media only.
