GOODING & COMPANY’ S SCOTTSDALE AUCTIONS –– JANUARY 19 & 20 by David M. Brown
Approximately 130 premier collectibles, led by a 1956 Jaguar D-Type, a very special 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale and a 2014 Pagani Hauyra, are docketed for the 11th Gooding & Company’ s Scottsdale Auctions, Friday, January 19, and Saturday, January 20, at Scottsdale Fashion Square, 4700 North Scottsdale Road, on the corner of East Highland Avenue.
The auction begins both days at 11 a. m. and continues until the docket is completed. The public preview is 9 a. m.– 6 p. m. Wednesday, January 17 – Friday, January 19, and 9 a. m.– 5 p. m. Saturday, January 20. The Sports Car Market Insider’ s Seminar is Thursday, January 18, 9:30 – 11:30 a. m. in the auction tent.
“ Each January our team shows off their market expertise in curating a diverse lineup of cars, many of which are fresh to the market. We strive to offer something for all collecting tastes and present cars that we as enthusiasts are excited about and show our passion for automotive excellence,” says David Gooding, president and founder of Santa Monica, Calif.-based Gooding & Company.
A replacement for the C-Type, the Jaguar D-Type delivered three consecutive overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans( 1955, 1956, and 1957), and this car was owned by British racing driver Peter Blond, who raced it successfully until 1957, including a win at the Snetterton National Race.
Restored to its original appearance in 1992, the Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale, chassis 06437, is the only 275 GTB designed and built by the legendary house of Carrozzeria Pininfarina, rather than by Scaglietti, and was personally used by Battista Pininfarina.
The Hauyra, capable of 230-plus mph and startto-60 mph acceleration below three seconds, is number 87 of the 100 produced and is believed to be the only one special ordered in Carbonio Russo, an exposed red carbon fiber body. The lightweight exotic has traveled less than 1,000 miles and includes the original tools, manuals and special-order luggage.
Joining this on the docket is a 1959 Aston Martin DB Mk III Drophead Coupe, one of approximately 10 left-hand drive examples fitted with the optional high-performance triple-carbureted DBD engine; a matching-numbers, Pininfarina-styled 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS Spider, one of only 99; and a 1989 De Tomaso Pantera GT5-S, chassis 9547, one of 136 of the final model for the marque.
“ You won’ t want to miss the thrill of record-breaking results, our unrivaled hospitality and the captivating enthusiasm exuded by auctioneer Charlie Ross,” Gooding says.“ I invite you to join our welcoming staff and fellow enthusiasts in celebrating these rare, often unseen, collectibles.”
The bidder registration of $ 200 includes a catalog, admission for two to the viewing and auction with two reserved seats, subject to availability. General admission is $ 40 and includes admission for one to the viewing and the auctions or you can purchase a catalog for $ 100, which includes two admission tickets for viewing and auction.
