Taylor Swift is making rounds in the news as her success is being analogized with her single ‘Wildest
Dreams’ from the album 1989. Taylor Swift is now the highest paid woman is music industry as she is
reported to pull in $170 million over the past year. The major chunk of her career’s highest earning
comes from the grandiose 1989 tour, grossing over a quarter of a billion dollars. Taylor Swift has broken
the record of Rolling Stones as she crossed over $200 million in North America. The singer has sold over
3 million albums in the span of a year taking over the brands as Apple, Diet Coke and Keds.
The second spot is locked for Adele with $80.5 million of earnings. Unlike almost all of her
contemporaries, Adele is quite old-fashioned, where she stresses on earning through her album sales.
Her latest album 25 contributed to the major chunk of her earnings, as it became the bestselling album
of 2015. With $76.5 million, Madonna claims the third spot; earning mostly from Rebel Heart Tour that
grosses over $170 million.
Rihanna has landed on 4th position, pulling $75 million majorly from her radio hits and tours. In addition,
Rihanna has also done endorsements for Puma, Stance, Dior and Samsung. At number 5, it’s Beyoncé
with $54 million. The conjecture is that Beyoncé will be closing next year with way higher earnings than
this year, part of which has already grossed over $250 million via her Formation World Tour. The
earnings from this tour was not aggregated in this year’s income.
The top 5 music pop star earnings is inclusive of the income from June 1, 2015, to June 1, 2016 before
management fees and taxes. The data has been collected from agencies as RIAA, Nielsen and Pollstar, in
addition meetings with managers, lawyers, agents and some of the stars themselves.
Although we have stars making big on our list with magnificent tours but it is definitely not a
prerequisite. The top ten list also includes mega pop icons as Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion
and Shania Twain who all have pompous bottom lines inflated by merely standing gigs.
There are many pop artists with double digit millions earnings but are not quite enough to make it to the
list. Artist as Miranda Lambert, Nicki Minaj Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, Halsey, G.E.M., Selena
Gomez and Mariah Carey are not on in the list.
