Planned admission number: 200 places
Of the 200 places available:
• 19 are designated as Language Scholarship places
• 40 are designated to Horsenden Primary School
• 20 are designated to The Edward Betham Church of
England Primary School
• 121 are designated to criteria 1, 2, 3 & 5 as set out below
Where the number of applications is greater than the
planned admission number, applications will be considered
against the criteria set out below.
After the allocation of children with an EHC plan, the
admission criteria will be applied in the following order
of priority:
1. All Looked After Children (as defined by the Local
Authority as children in public care subject to Section
22 of the Children Act (1989) or children who were
previously looked after but immediately after being
looked after became subject to an adoption, child
arrangements, or special guardianship order, have
priority over all other applications.
2. Children with a sibling already on-roll at the Academy
who will be on-roll when the child is admitted. Sibling
refers to brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted
brother or sister, step brother or sister, or the child of
the parent/carer’s partner where the child for whom the
school place is sought is living in the same family unit at
the same address as that sibling.
3. Children for whom William Perkin Church of England
High School is the nearest maintained high school or
academy, measured in a straight line from a point in the
property of the child’s home address (including flats)
to the main entrance of the school. Criteria 1-3 will be
applied initially until 121 places have been allocated.
4. 40 places will be made available to children attending
Horsenden Primary School and 20 places will be made
available to children attending The Edward Betham
Church of England Primary School. Where the number
of students eligible exceeds the quota of 40 places for
Horsenden and 20 places for Edward Betham, allocation
will be made in accordance with criteria 3 then 5
until the quota is reached. Any places not required
by students at Horsenden Primary School or Edward
Betham Church of England Primary School will be
allocated solely according to criteria 3 and 4.
5. Other children, with priority given to those living closest
to the school, measured in a straight line from a point in
the property of the child’s home address (including flats)
to the main entrance of the school.
Tie-break
In the event of oversubscription in any of the above criteria,
priority will be given to those living nearest to the academy
measured in a straight line from a point in the property of the
child’s home address (including flats) to the main entrance
of the school, using the Local Authority’s computerised
measuring system. In the rare event that applicants’ distance
measurements are exactly the same, in blocks of flats for
instance, the place will be allocated randomly.
