Freak circus Sonnet Youth curate monthly poetry nights, pop-up events and workshops, bringing together the best of Scottish talent. Sonnet Youth - Spoken Word House Party presents an unpredictable literary rave, led by SY hosts Cat Hepburn and Kevin P Gilday, with special guests Iona Lee (Scottish Poetry Slam Champ 2016), Drew Taylor-Wilson (award winning theatre maker and poet) and tunes from Jimbo (Missing Persons Club). Put the books down and pick up a beer! FREAK Circus are Edinburgh’s premier spoken word theatre company and a List magazine Hot 100 show. For Hidden Door 2017 they present the spectacular FREAK Circus Freak Show, a unique audio visual experience combining lavish imagery and fine art animation coupled with live performance poetry and theatre from some of Britain’s top spoken word artists. LOUD POETS Loud Poets are a collective of musicians and spoken word artists known for tightly crafted events in Edinburgh and Glasgow where music, poignancy and comedy hit the stage to prove poetry can be enjoyed by the masses. Inky Fingers at Hidden Door Edinburgh’s longest running poetry open mic night, Inky Fingers comes to Hidden Door for the first time. Inky Fingers at Hidden Door is an Edinburgh- Bristol line-up with Bristol’s poet laureate, Miles Chambers, Bristol short story writer Tania Hershman and Edinburgh poet and performer, Davie Cunningham. Rachel plummer Shoreline of Infinity 34 A quarterly sci-fi magazine from Scotland, running regular SF events across the UK. Event Horizon: live sci-fi cabaret, including music (Bafta award-winner Atzi Muramatsu on cello, Markee de Saw & Burt Finkle), poetry (Bram E Gieben and Colin McGuire) and a sci-fi story adapted for stage (performed by actors Debbie Cannon and Jonathan Whiteside) Rachel Plummer is joining forces with the acclaimed Scottish Clarinet Quartet to deliver a vintage sci-fi themed, multi-media performance on the subject of contact with alien life. The Parlour Guide to Exo-Politics will challenge your view of the universe and your own place in it, featuring experimental film by award winning film maker Matt Hulse and original music by internationally recognised composer Matt Rogers, woven in between spoken word narrative. INTERROBANG ‽ INTERROBANG‽ is the UK’s most adorably edgy night of spoken word, live music and more – on the shortlist for the 2017 Saboteur Award for Best Regular Spoken Word Night. For Ghosts of the Citadel, INTERROBANG‽ present Lucy Ribchester, Jen McGregor, Alex Howard, and Aurora Engine in a contemporary, site specific Leith- set retelling of Gaston Leroux’s Le Fantôme de l’Opéra. 35
