What makes
skiing so
special to you?
”I skied a bit as a kid, but truly discovered skiing
after high school, where I headed to the Alps to
work for a season (which soon became three).
I had been a competitive gymnast all my life,
so for me skiing was the perfect combination
of challenges, technique, speed and adrenaline.
The fact that you practice the sport in incredible
surroundings is of course important too.”
Why is skiing
such an amazing
family activity?
”Skiing is a fantastic sport to share as a family.
After a few hard years getting the boys ’up to
speed’ so to speak, we are now having so much
fun exploring the mountain together. By now,
there is no waiting for the boys, though Sean
and I still have an advantage in deep powder.”
What is
your favourite
ski area(s)?
”Chamonix is of course my favourite for long
challenging runs and incredible off-piste terrain. Verbier is also great for off-piste skiing
and ski-touring. For piste skiing my favourite
is Les Trois Vallées (Val Thorens/Courchevel).
St. Anton and Les Portes du Soleil also deserve
a mention, and in the old days I used to love
escaping to La Grave for hardcore, uncrowded
off-piste skiing. I still need to discover Andermatt and Engelberg, as I hear great things about
those areas.”
