TAVI is a great technique ; it is not the future but the present ... structural procedures , and another important issue that limits us doing more procedures is the availability of the anaesthesiologists .”
Final words Finally , and looking forward , Dr Nombela-Franco believes that “ TAVI is a great technique ; it not the future but the present and we are also going to increase the indications for TAVI so we will need to be prepared to treat more and more patients .”
He is hopeful that the indications for TAVI could be expanded to include other clinical scenarios . For example , while the current gold standard for aortic insufficiency is surgery , in the future this condition could be treated through TAVI . He also feels that the threshold for TAVI in aortic stenosis could also be lowered so that , ultimately , patients with less severe disease could also be managed with the procedure .
