How did your time with USQ help you get to where you are today ?

Apart from the theoretical backdrop , the practical case studies and exercises were helpful in consolidating my understanding of the coursework . Probably as , or more importantly , the ability to ruthlessly prioritise and manage time was a core skill I developed throughout my studies that has helped me balance work and home life ever since . The importance of teamwork was something my studies at USQ deeply ingrained in me and has prevailed as a core value ever since , throughout every role I ’ ve held . Being open , vulnerable and collaborative were behaviours encouraged throughout my studies and have continued to be characteristics I bring to the workplace every day . In fact , I think the emotional intelligence * I developed throughout my studies has helped enormously in the workplace in terms of helping me build stronger relationships , helping me understand what motivates others , and I think it ' s been more important than my IQ in getting me to where I am today !
* popularised by Daniel Goleman , emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others .

Who do you look up to in your profession ?

As a recruiter , I look up to those in this profession who every day make it their ambition to elevate this craft . It can be the hiring manager who will leave no rock unturned to find someone to complement the strengths of the rest of her team . It can be the founder of a recruitment agency who risks everything to hang the shingle above the door because she believes in the art and science of finding the best career match for every candidate she meets , or it can be the innovator that is relentlessly curious and persistently searches for a better way to do this — be it through new tools , through people , or the experience we share with each of our hiring partners and managers .
