'I went through Canada down to Boston,
and in the Spring break we went from
Wisconsin all the way down to New
Orleans, New Orleans to Texas, then
Texas to Colorado and across. We just
rented a car and drove for 14 days.'
went on to win the whole thing. I go for the New
Orleans Saints in the NFL, so watching a preseason
game between the Green Bay Packers and the Saints
was really good. I also saw baseball and ice hockey
games, which had great atmosphere and were pretty
cool.’
From squash and indoor soccer to basketball,
volleyball and even a darts tournament, Joshua fitted
in sport wherever he could while at the University of
Wisconsin, and because he stayed at the Uni there
were always friends up for a game.
Before he left, Joshua hadn’t planned any travel
throughout America, but while over there,
spontaneous trips and extensive sight-seeing only
increased the appeal of studying abroad.
‘New Orleans was a favourite without a doubt and
I would definitely go back there. I think I’ll move to
Canada once I finish [my degree] because I travelled
through there on the winter break, and it was just
beautiful.
'The most spontaneous thing was New Year's, when
we were just like, let’s drive to New York. So we
drove all night on the 30th for 16 hours, didn’t sleep
all night and got there on the 31st for New Year’s Eve
in Time Square.’
Joshua’s year abroad opened his eyes to a world of
travel and exploration. When I asked whether he had
any future travel plans he said, ‘I will definitely do
more travel and sport will always be a part of it.’
