FROM NEPAL
to
NURSING IN
AUSTRALIA
Imagine leaving your home country for the first time to pursue a nursing
degree… This dream became a reality for USQ nursing student Rajani.
M
eet Rajani! Until 2012, she had never even been
out of her hometown in Nepal, but with her
mother’s encouragement, she set off on her uni
adventure to study a Bachelor of Nursing degree oncampus at USQ.
Not only did Rajani travel halfway across the world to
pursue her dream of becoming a nurse, she commutes
from Brisbane to Toowoomba to attend classes oncampus. When studying on the go, she says, ‘it’s
important to make the most of every moment you have
to study. I study on the bus, listen to lectures and read
my notes on the way to class.’
Growing up in Nepal, Rajani spent a lot of time caring
for her grandmother, who gave her the passion to look
after the sick and elderly. Nepalese culture and traditions
are extremely important to Rajani and even though she is
used to living in a large community, she likes the solitude
of having just two housemates here in Australia.
Rajani has come so far in her study journey and her top
tip for staying motivated is to ‘take one day at a time
and no matter what, don’t give up. If you really want
something, keep working towards it until you succeed.
Nothing is impossible if you work hard for it.’
