MCDONALDS
The Mc-make-your-own burger
Every uni student’s staple food provider, McDonald’s is
branching into the world of gourmet fast food with their
newest enterprise; Create Your Taste.
Diners can now create their own burger by selecting from
a range of 30 gourmet ingredients using the in-store
touchscreens that are, as I recently discovered, very easy
to use.
There are 5 steps to follow: choose your bun, make it
cheesy, turn up the taste, freshen it up and get saucy. For
those following a gluten-free diet, you can order a lettuce
wrap instead of a burger bun.
I went to the McDonald’s Toowoomba South restaurant
and was mostly, pleasantly surprised by the whole
process.
My burger creation consisted of the baker’s bun with
shaved parmesan, a 113g Angus patty, grilled pineapple,
crispy bacon, guacamole, tortilla chips, whole leaf lettuce
and tomato with a dollop of chipotle mayo and if I do say
so myself, it was delicious!!
My burger cost $12.15 and I opted to turn it into a meal
by adding fries and a large Lemon Lime & Bitters soda —
a total of $16.90.
As you add ingredients to your burger, the touchscreen
advises which items add to the price of the base burger.
While I think the final price was reasonable for a
customised burger, the tiny amount of guacamole I
received for the extra dollar was disappointing.
The other downside was that while the food at
McDonald’s may have ventured into the realm of
gourmet, the plastic seating and fluorescent
lighting still retain the Mc-restaurant feel,
OFFICIAL
so I would opt for take away so you can
SITE
enjoy your delicious burger creation in
more comfortable surroundings.
