WHAT TO WATCH uni life Avengers: Age of Ultron Where: howing in cinemas now S Avengers: Age of Ultron is no doubt one of this year’s biggest movie releases and after seeing it all I could say was, ‘wow’. The first Avengers film, also directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) was a thrilling experience, a true ‘marvel’ and accomplishment of modern film. Not only are these movies the perfect action blockbusters, but they also bring a lot of heart, humour and stylised realism with them, thanks to Whedon’s wonderful ability of demonstrating natural, unique characters and their interactions with each other. While Age of Ultron doesn’t quite exceed what the original Avengers accomplished, it dares to take some risks and is not very far behind. Age of Ultron introduces a new threat in the form of a genocidal robot. Ultron is gifted with Artificial Intelligence and deems the only way to save the human race is to wipe out all sentient life on the planet. Ultron, along with newcomers ‘The Twins’, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are welcome additions and entertaining characters. Age of Ultron almost feels like one long action sequence which at times can be quite tiring. It is thanks to a few moments scattered throughout the film where the heroes take a break from the action, that the film allows the audience a chance to breathe. When Age of Ultron leaves us at the end of the VISIT film, it feels like we AVENGERS SITE are entering into darker territory within the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’. Overall, while some of the new characters felt criminally underused and some action sequences overstayed their welcome, Avengers: Age of Ultron was an exhilarating cinematic experience.
