BLUEBERRIES : THE SUPERFOOD OF CHOICE
This greenfields site allowed a design with a total fit-for-purpose solution focusing on energy efficiency . The client requested a packing facility that would fit on a 30m x 80m footprint including
a 10m x 30m receiving / pre-cooler area , a 50m x 30m packing area , and a holding / dispatch room of 20m x 30m able to process 5 tonnes
of blueberries per hour at an average temperature of 1 ° C . The facility location necessitated the system be able to handle fruit entering at 40 ° C in the summer . The facility was completed just in time and allowed harvesting to begin right after handover .

NEW POULTRY PROCESSING PLANT LARGEST CAAS MODEL IN AFRICA
Meeting the client ’ s core values in sustainability , the latest addition to the group ’ s facilities located in Kariega in the Eastern Cape Province was successfully delivered . As industry leaders driven by innovation , Sovereign Foods ( SF ) equips themselves with cutting-edge farming and processing technology that is designed and selected with sustainability in mind . Their world-class facilities achieve sustainability objectives through maximised efficiency . The client brief of the project was essentially to supply Cooling as a Service ( Caas ) at the most economical price . The client requirement also included a steam contract for outsourced steam with heat recovery from the refrigeration plant for hot water generation . The ownership of the refrigeration plant would remain with Energy Partners . The plant provides cooling to the new meat processing facility for cold storage , process cooling , climate control in the process areas , and spiral freezers . The design cooling capacity is 2200kWR high stage , and 1320kWR low stage .

SA LEADS WITH HELIUM VACCINE-STORAGE TECHNOLOGY
JSE-listed company Renergen recently introduced the Cryo-Vacc ; a vaccine storage technology that is driven by the natural properties of helium . Cold Link Africa had the opportunity to discuss the design and concept with chief executive officer , Stefano Marani .
Renergen is the country ' s first , and only current on-shore petroleum production right-holder , essentially placing them centre in the oil and gas space . The company has roughly 187 000 hectares of production right in the Free State , South Africa . Aside from filling party balloons that most people are familiar with ( which is only about 5 % of the market ), helium is used in the medical industry for MRIs , used in the manufacturer of cell phones , TVs , microchips , computers and many more applications . Basically , none of the modern-day technology would exist without helium being used in the process , and there ' s no substitute for helium either .
