COLD STORAGE FACILITY
The uniting of existing-facility owners and an international logistics company has produced a new 11 000m 2 facility in Hammarsdale , KwaZulu-Natal . Maersk , with their new strategic partner , has established this as their second dedicated storage facility site in South Africa and trades under the name of Precool Cold Storage . The partnership further increases Maersk ’ s capabilities in serving the perishable industry as the new facility was designed and developed specifically for this customer-segment and has a total installed cooling capacity of 5.28MW through a transcritical CO₂ system .

NEW DEGREENING ROOMS FOR SUNDAYS RIVER VALLEY
The Sundays River Citrus Company ( SRCC ) manages approximately 9 million cartons of citrus for export , and a further 2.5 million pockets of oranges for the local market each season .
From their humble beginnings way back in 1924 , the SRCC has grown into the largest grower , packer , and exporter of South African citrus . Respected internationally as a trusted supplier , their strategy continues as a reliable provider to both local and international markets of excellent quality fruit .

WORLD ’ S LARGEST MACADAMIA CURING AND PROCESSING FACILITY – IN SA
Marquis Macadamias ( previously Global Macadamia ) has built one of the largest macadamia curing and processing facilities in the world , located in the Alkmaar region of Mpumalanga . The volume and value of macadamia ’ s being processed at this site alone has the potential to provide a much-needed economic boost to the area by acting as a catalyst for creating new opportunities for local businesses . According to Macadamias South Africa ( SAMAC ), current rains in provinces might be a bonus as their crop estimates for 2021 is over 57 000 tonnes of nut in shell ( this is 18.2 % higher than the 2020 crop of 48 925 tonnes ).
To handle most of the macadamia processing operations , a unique plant built in line with global industry standards in sustainable practices , was required . This newly commissioned project houses a combined heating and cooling plant that sets a new benchmark for facilities of this kind in South Africa .
