Dinner
Abby put down the knife and sat at her husband's favorite chair, she was awfully tired. What a delicious dinner had she just prepared? Her husband, Brian, would be delighted by her achievement. Duck breast with pomegranate-applesauce, but just in case the kids didn't like it, she had prepared mac and cheese. She knew that Melanie and Sarah could sometimes be really picky. Too bad she had to make it from scratch, she had just gone to a duck farm, the one close to the market, and picked out four of its fattest ducks. There was blood everywhere, in the kitchen, in her own hands, even on her favorite bumble bee apron, so she decided it was clean up time. While she cleaned the floor with a wet cloth, she heard a loud thump coming from the kids room. Those naughty little Melanie and Sarah were up to something again, so Abby smiled gracefully and closed the door, so the kids would play without disturbing her mom.
Why hasn't anyone come out to have dinner yet? She screamed. Nobody answered. Of course, they were playing a trick on her, as always. She entered the kids room and as she suspected she found them asleep under their beds, they looked like little angels. Abby decided to pick them up, change them to their jammies and place them carefully on the couch so they could get some sleep before dinner. Abby went up the stairs and looked for Brian. He was sitting in his chair in front of his desk with his paintbrush in hand. He was asleep too. Abby understood why everyone was so tired, she was tired too. The family had had a big fight that afternoon just before Abby started to make dinner. She knew that she had to bring Brian to the table, or else he wouldn't come at all. The family needed to be reunited.
Abby grabbed Brian by his arms and with a lot of effort, she slided him down the stairs. Then, she sat him down on one of the wooden tables, Melanie and Sarah too. Abby started to talk about her day, while all the family listened with a lot of attention. She brought plates to everyone with individual ducks, and placed a red wine glass between the fingers of Brian. Then, Abby started to apologize about their fight that day, she knew that she was the one who started it. She forgot to take the pills Dr. Rayson had given her and know everybody was mad at her, and that’s why nobody would talk to her, but she had taken half of her pills know, so she felt a lot better. She looked at Brian, silence was overpowering the room. Suddenly, Brian's wine glass fell to the floor, making his head fall towards his individual duck. Abby spotted a bloody red whole on Brian's back. Then she looked at the girls, both her heads had fallen to their individual ducks too, and they also had red bloody holes on their backs. What was going on? Then, Abby looked at her meal and realized that her dinner wasn't actually a duck , it was a burned toy from Melanie and Sarah's room. All of the ducks were. Where did the blood come from? Abby looked down to her hands and looked at the blood. Took the knife, and stabbed herself on her stomach. “See? I told you it wouldn't hurt…”
