Smiles run out of her face every time he walks in.
The fear she feels is reflected on my spirit,
And stabs me where it really hurts.
But when he’s gone,
Her pearls bloom,
While we take out the hidden chocolate ice cream,
And eat it till our mouths freeze.
A smile is all I need from her when his volcano erupts.
Even when that smile costed hours of effort and bloody hands.
But sometimes,
that smile shatters,
like the glass he broke.
And why did he break it?
“Why Daddy? Why?”
She said.
And a swipe ran into her face,
while his hand grabbed my hair.
And tossed us at the floor while he howled.
While he cracked,
While he abandoned his sweet spirit he once used to be.
The spirit that picked me up from our bed cheerfully,
Instead of violently.
The spirit that kissed us every morning,
And told us it was time for breakfast.
He still has that spirit.
I know.
But doesn’t bring it home to us,
He brings it to the lady he never speaks about with me.
But I can hear his moaning through the phone at night.
I can hear the same promises he told me…
And our daughter.
Good luck lady…
I would cry every night before I go to bed.
