look to be emerging as leaders going into the season.
One of the main catalysts of that has been quarterback Noah Adams.
“ My expectation is our quarterback has to be the toughest dude on the team,” Rodriguez said.“ He’ s been an extremely phenomenal example of what it means to be a Wolfe City Wolf. He’ s here every day, working hard, never has any excuses. He’ ll run through a brick wall and never look back.”
Rodriguez isn’ t the only one who seems to recognize the type of impact that Rodriguez could have this season.“ Dave Campbell’ s Texas Football” magazine also recognized him District 9-2A DI preseason offensive MVP in its summer preview.
Adams finished last season with almost 2,400 yards passing along with 30 touchdowns to just four interceptions and a 106.4 passer rating. He also rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns to add to his season totals.
Helping protect Adams up front on the offensive line are players like Santiago Marquez and Nick Nowack, who are both rising seniors.
Other skill position players who Rodriguez has taken notice of heading into this season are players such as Daniel Guillen. Guillen was a wide receiver last year who caught 47 passes for 542 yards and four touchdowns. Austin Bongratz is another player in that unit who Rodriguez could see taking a larger workload.
As a sophomore, Bongratz caught 14 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns but will look to see increased production now as an upperclassman.
To round out the dynamic offense, Rodriguez mentioned a pair of running backs who have caught his eye – Rylan Smith and Jory Young.
The team will be much more of a running-game-by-committee group after losing star back H. D. Davis. Rodriguez is looking to see those two backs take a step up this year.
Many of those names will also split time defensively this season with combining for 12 total tackles last season. Young also added 21 tackles of his own and Bongratz will see an increase in usage as a safety this year.
The team finished 5-6 last season but Rodriguez said he wants the team to look beyond just measuring themselves in wins and losses. He wants the team to focus on getting“ one day better, one week at a time.”
