Royse City Bulldogs coach Andrew Colvin has a new identity he wants his team to carry throughout the course of the 2026 season – be an“ anchored” football team.
The theme is something Colvin has been crafting into the team’ s identity over the last two seasons. Last year, the theme of the team was“ deep water.” Colvin defined deep water to mean“ you’ re in trouble or you’ re in a bad situation.”
The coach wanted the team to learn to thrive in adversity and troublesome situations of the game, with the goal being to learn how to think on their feet, play fast and get through adversity as a unit. season, Colvin has added the new layer – being“ anchored.”
“ Just like how you drop an anchor in a storm, the boat’ s not going anywhere, we’ re anchored, we believe in doing things the right way, we believe tough offseasons, tough summers, being good teammates and being selfless makes winning a byproduct of that,” Colvin said.
The coach said players have been hard at work during offseason in the weight room and during skills sessions. The players were given a message after the 2025 season ended that you know who you can trust in the offseason and who is with you through the process of improving on and off the field.
That resulted in a season of growth in 2025. While the team finished 5-5 and sixth in District 10-6A after a 3-0 nondistrict start to the season, Colvin said that he thinks the team accomplished forming an identity of consistent physical and mental toughness.
“ What I was most proud of last year with that group is they played really hard,” Colvin said.“ We played in some exciting games but what made me most proud is we weren’ t fishing for effort out of our kids, I just want to continue to build on that.”
Since the team rose to the challenge of playing in“ deep water” last
