“ We want to fly to the football, get every rep and attack. When they’ re here we push them as hard as we can push them.”
Cannon described the Hornets as massive underdogs in the game against Pewitt being that the Brahmas had taken down Cooper, 22-14, earlier in the year. Cannon said that despite the adversity the team faced, they stayed focused, went into the matchup prepared and never backed down.
“ We shouldn’ t have been in the game – by the numbers – but those kids understood the game plan and they fought the hardest I’ ve ever seen,” Cannon said.
The defense was suffocating – constantly putting Brahmas quarterback Datokta Zavala under pressure and finishing the game with 61 total tackles, nine tackles-for-loss and two sacks.

The coach’ s goals coming into each season remain consistent – make the playoffs, win district and win a playoff game. Cannon hopes these three goals are a foundation for the team to build on and when they get consistent at it, he’ ll start adding new goals to get deeper into the postseason.
Some key players that Cannon will be keeping an eye on this season are players such as Braylon Jordan, who played his first season of organized football ever last year and Cannon praised him for how quickly he took to the game and expects him to be a lethal“ 50-50 ball” receiving target.
Cannon also talked about linemen such as Brady Martin and Wyatt McCoy. Both are versatile players in the sense they can hold down the fort on the offensive side of the ball while also getting after the quarterback as defensive linemen.
Martin finished the season with 20 tackles and three sacks in 2025. Much of the Hornets veteran leaders in the running game graduated this year so Cannon will be looking for guys like Grayson Salisbury and Heath Anderton to lead the way for the rushing attack.
Cannon hopes the team embraces a mentality of“ playing over their heads” and reaching the goals laid out ahead of the year.
The Hornets also wore down Pewitt’ s front seven with a hard-nose rushing attack that totaled 128 yards and three touchdowns to help pull out a 31-26 victory.
Cannon said that was the best example of relentlessness he had ever seen on a football field in his career.
“ It’ s nothing flashy, it’ s not fancy, it’ s not hip or sexy, it’ s just old blue-collar grind it out and fight,” Cannon said.
