LONE OAK HOPES

TO LIMIT INJURIES

By David Claybourn Herald-Banner Sports Editor
Lone Oak’ s Buffaloes opened the 2024 season with seven straight victories.
But injuries to key players affected the Buffaloes late in the season as they dropped their last four games to finish at 7-4.
The Buffaloes are hoping for an injury-free season in 2025 as they compete again for a playoff spot and higher in District 9-3A-II. Last year the Buffaloes went 3-3 in district play to tie with Harmony for third place in the district behind 6-0 Grand Saline and 5-1 Grand Saline. Trailing Lone Oak and Harmony were 2-4 Prairiland, 2-4 Quitman and 0-6 Paris Chisum.
Grand Saline, which went 11-1 in 2024, has been picked to repeat as district champion by Dave Campbell’ s Texas Football Magazine, with Edgewood second, Lone Oak third, Harmony fourth, Prairiland fifth,
Quitman sixth and Chisum seventh. Grand Saline was ranked 17th in Class 3A-II by the magazine.
The Buffaloes will be returning seven starters on offense, led by senior quarterback Slayde Parnell, who was 105-of-180 passing last season for 1,513 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Also back are seniors Travis Scott, Owen Mann, Tyson Hampton, Hayden Thomas, Max Ramirez and Alex Mc- Callum.
