QUINLAN FORD

TO RUN AND THROW THE BALL

By David Claybourn Herald-Banner Sports Editor
Running the football is still a priority for the Quinlan Ford Panthers and their Fly-T offensive set.
The Panthers, who led the nation in rushing in 2021 at 476.1 yards per game, ran for an average of 348.3 yards per game in 2024, rushing for 42 touchdowns.
But they can still throw the ball effectively. Returning quarterback Payton Wallen, a 6-3, 228-pound senior, was 42- of-104 passing last season for 715 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 472 yards and seven TDs. Wallen displayed his arm strength last spring when he advanced to region in the discus.
Wallen committed in the offseason to play football at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Wallen is not the only returning starter in the backfield off last year’ s 7-4 playoff team.
“ All skill kids are back,” said Todd Wallace, who is also back as the Panthers’ head coach.“ Quarterback is a threeyear starter. Outside linebackers, ends, secondary are all back.”
The list of returnees in the backfield include running back Mason Tigue( 68- 608, 4 TDs), running back Devon Williams( 56-518, 9 TDs), fullback Trevin Sisco( 75-389, 6 TDs) and running back James Barker( 40-334, 3 TDs).
Leading the blocking will be returning offensive lineman Franklin Davis( 5-9, 275, Sr.).
