Women also need to know what is happening in society with regards to food. Americans are constantly bombarded with mixed messages. If a large serving of fries isn’t large enough, it can be super-sized. If a venti frappuccino (not coffee to begin with) isn’t large enough, simply order a trenta. In fact, all over the country, portion sizes are out of control. Women—and, indeed, men—are being attacked from every direction with food. Instead, people striving to lose weight should be honest with themselves, committing to a healthy lifestyle. High fat, greasy, and sugar-laden foods are terrible for the physique, as well as staying healthy long-term. The solution is to eat healthily and in proportion (a fist-sized portion is all an adult needs to eat per meal), as well as eating several small meals per day, not three large ones. Combine this with an active lifestyle and a change of mindset. When the mindset changes, so does the body.
Summer is a great time to re-evaluate food and lifestyle choices. In fact, sometimes, the sun and warmer temperatures are all the motivation needed in order to make that healthy change.

(Cont. from p. 13) A non-threatening environment where everyone was a winner re-affirmed in me that we are not defined by our ages, our outward appearances, or our past, but our servants’ hearts, our passion for causes, and our incredible experiences, all of which we bring to the pageant.
Nothing annoys me more than to hear a woman say, “I’m too old.” Hogwash! We are never too old, and it’s never too late. What we need to say to ourselves is, “Go for it.” Allowing ourselves to watch buried dreams come to life is one of the most liberating, energizing, and freeing situations we could ever permit ourselves to go through.
We can deny it or embrace it, but inside each woman is a princess, just like how, as little girls, we played dress up with mother’s fancy clothes and pretended to be that special princess, not to mention Halloween, when our favorite costumes were those of Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty. We still play dress up, only this time wearing fashionable clothes, accessories, shoes, and handbags. It’s the same in pageantry; we let that inner princess re-ignite our dreams, and we go for it!
Some will criticize our determination in re-igniting our dreams. Others will scoff at the idea. However, those who are close to us and really know us will encourage us, support us, and love us through our passions. Never let anyone discourage you from living your dreams, whatever your age.
As C.S. Lewis said, “You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream.”
