the judge, and hoping that whatever comes out isn’t similar to Miss Teen USA, South Carolina 2007’s onstage answer. How, then, is it possible to give a personal answer, yet still rock the interview?
The first trick is humor. When something unexpected happens, smile and don’t be afraid to comment! Once, a contestant had a timer that went of as soon as she sat down for the interview, but instead of being flustered, she showed her poise by joking about how quick the interviews seemed. The judge laughed, and she had a great interview. The contestant was proud when all the other girls commented on how tough that judge was. Simply put, being comfortable will eradicate nerves. Believing in oneself shows authenticity, and any judge can say that a girl who seems authentic and relatable is the girl who wins the crown.
So how does a pageant girl find her own personal pageant identity? This is done by giving everything a personal touch during the pageant. For example, it’s perfectly acceptable for a sporty girl to mention her favorite team in her introduction. However, keep in mind that nothing is worse than a bad introduction. A clever and well-rounded introduction, which shows personality, will always win, but a brag book will not. This is especially true with credentials such as volunteering, religious affiliation, and lists of achievements. No one likes the girl who is her own biggest fan!
An authentic pageant identity—which is, in all reality, simply an extension of a competitor’s normal personality—should show in every aspect of the pageant weekend presentation. An unexpected pageant girl’s short haircut and unique approach may make others stand up and take notice! Go ahead. Check into the pageant in a fantastic, funky, stand-out outfit, and everyone will pay attention. Bring a fresh approach to the competition. After all, the girl who is best-remembered is often the girl who brings home the crown.
Cont. from p. 7 How did you specifically prepare for Miss West Africa International?
I thought about, and did a lot of research on things I wanted to achieve as Miss West Africa. From there, I laid my plans and manifested them in a speech that expressed exactly what I stand for. All in all, you have to use your intelligence to make people who don't know you recognize your full potential. In terms of working out, I simply stuck with my usual routine.
What is your favorite daily attire during a pageant?
I love wearing dresses during a pageant because they don't reveal to much, while showing the shape in a very sophisticated and elegant way.
How many shoes do you own? We want to hear the truth!
Oh, I believe all women are shoe addicts! I am, too; I have approximately 60 pairs!
How do you keep your weight in check? What are some special tips?
I eat very healthily and love to cook, so I always know exactly what I am eating. That's the best way to control your weight.
How many times a week did you work out when preparing for Miss West Africa, and for how long each day?
I go jogging every morning, at least for an hour, at the main river in Frankfurt. Additionally, I work out 3 times a week for two hours at the gym. Mostly, I do cardio courses or Zumba.
If I looked into your refrigerator what would I find?
You would definitely find a lot of water, milk and cheese. I don't have a
lot of food in my refrigerator since I go grocery shopping everyday for the meal I want to cook.
If you were a cookie, which would you be?
(Laughs) I would definitely be a triple chocolate cookie! They are my favorite! They are delicious, and we even share a complextion. Yummy!
