“Living in the South comes with its benefits: amazing Tex-Mex, friendly strangers, close knit communities. Our culture also comes with antiquated beliefs about the roles of women in society. If there was one thing I could change, it would be the pervasive mindset among many Southerners that women, even if they have a job outside of the home, should be expected to get dinner on the table, take care of the kids and end world hunger while they're at it. If more men saw marriage as an equal partnership between two humans rather than between their ideals of a man and a woman, it would be a huge step forward."
