“New York City may be one of the most accepting places when it comes to having women in the workplace. You'll always see female professionals walking on the sidewalk as you would any male. Yet, the concept of the "old boy's club" is very much alive in the city, where the companies that many professional women work at still have men, typically white, in positions of power. Income inequality is very real here despite how progressive New York feels; and still, women are expected to be full-time mothers and workers. The majority of companies do not have childcare available. Within a married heterosexual couple, the woman is expected to dedicate all of her time and energy to two responsibilities while men are absolved of raising a child because they work. When men and women both have jobs, how do these gender-based expectations still exist?”
