Did you know? The largest Easter egg ever made was 25 feet high and weighed over 8,000 pounds. It was made only out of marshmallow and chocolate, and it was supported by an internal steel frame.

Though Easter is considered a religious, Christian holiday, decorating Easter eggs is considered a pagan tradition. The egg, as an ancient symbol of new life, has been associated with pagan spring celebrations. Chritians have expressed their own perspective on the eggs, saying that Easter eggs represent Jesus' emergence from the tomb and resurrection. Some sources conclude that the practice of decorating Easter eggs dates back to at least the 13th century.

A popular explanation of the custom is that eggs were formerly aforbidden food during the Lenten season, so people "would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, then eat them on Easter as a celebration."
