If you go to Fontvieille, in front of the « Quartier de la Mer » car park you will see a fifty-metre section of road that now resembles a roof with solar panels. It is the first solar road in the Principality and these are not your ordinary photovoltaic panels. In fact, each photovoltaic cell in the surface panel is about the width of a hair on your head. Five years of research by Colas, in collaboration with the National Institute of Solar Energy and the Department of Urban Amenities, have resulted in a 7-mm panel with layers like a millefeuille. Monaco’ s endless sunshine will now charge the road with energy fed into the SMEG grid. This first site is estimated to produce 5000 kW hours per year and up to 6 kW of power. Despite pouring rain, thousands of fans, journalists and VIPs flocked to the opening ceremony of the 86 th Monte-Carlo Rally in Casino Square. Monaco is the season opener for the World Rally Championship( WRC), and the playing field is intense. BMW, Toyota, Citroën, Ford, Hyundai and Mitsubishi barely make up a third of the competing vehicles. What gave particular importance to the event is the fact that for the first time in the history of the rally participants headed to Sisteron and Col de Fontbelle. The race consisted of 17 stages( 394.74 km) and combined 3 categories: WRC, WRC2 and WRC3. On the eve of the rally, a test run was organised on the route to Mont Agel, near La Turbie. The test track was six kilometres long, without a speed limit— sometimes only professional drivers could maintain control at speeds exceeding 100 km / h in wet conditions. Sébastien Ogier and navigator Julien Ingrassia won a record-breaking fifth consecutive Monte-Carlo Rally win, their sixth overall. With his record of consecutive wins, it was a reassuring opener for Sébastien, who has his eyes set on yet another WRC championship for 2018. Ott Tänak took second place for Toyota, who also secured third place with Jari-Matti Latvala, giving Toyota a narrow lead in the constructor’ s championship.

Задача этого покрытия в том, чтобы собирать солнечную энергию в течение дня и затем передавать ее в электросеть компании SMEG. По подсчетам экспертов, эти 50 кв. м покрытия способны приносить до 5000 кВт энергии в год. Эксперимент проводится компанией Colas, которая занимается интеграцией солнечных панелей в повседневную городскую жизнь по всему миру. Для получения максимально точных данных с датчиков компания Colas устанавливает рядом с отрезком солнечной дороги метеостанцию и систему по подсчету количества автомобилей, проехавших по участку. К слову сказать, фотовольтажные элементы Wattway совсем не дешевое удовольствие, ведь один километр такой дороги обходится в 5 млн евро. Цена подобной установки в Монако не раскрывается.

25 января 2018 года в огнях ночного дождливого Монако стартовало 86-е Ралли Монте-Карло. Особую важность мероприятию придавал тот факт, что оно стало первым этапом Чемпионата мира по ралли( WRC). Вот лишь некоторые марки автомобилей, что приняли участие в заезде: BMW, Toyota, Citroën, Ford, Hyundai и Mitsubishi. В этом году маршрут был несколько изменен по сравнению с предыдущей гонкой. Впервые в истории ралли участники направились в Систерон и Коль де Фонбель( Col de Fontbelle). Гонка состояла из 17 этапов общей протяженностью 394,74 км. Финальный раунд традиционно охватил два перевала через Col de Turini и финишировал в Монако. 28 января на Дворцовой площади Монако состоялось вручение наград победителям 86-го Ралли Монте-Карло. Себастьен Ожье( Sébastien Ogier) при поддержке штурмана Жюльена Инграссиа( Julien Ingrassia) уже в шестой раз одержал победу в гонке за рулем Ford Fiesta WRC. Второе место занял эстонец Отт Танак( Ott Tänak), а на третью ступеньку пьедестала поднялся финн Яри-Матти Латвала( Jari-Matti Latvala). Оба призера были за рулем Toyota Yaris WRC. В кубке WRC ралли Монте-Карло считается ветераном, будучи одновременно одним из самых эксклюзивных заездов.
