Every year, an artist offers his interpretation of
the Red Cross symbol.The piece of art offered
by Pino Pinelli to the Monaco Red Cross in 2017
Josephine Baker, the famous cabaret dancer,
triumphantly performed for the last time
at the age of 68, just a few months before 
her death.
As of today, the Red Cross Ball is still held
in the Salle des Etoiles of the Monte-Carlo
Sporting Club. Since 1989, artists are invited
to create a work of art specially associated
with the Red Cross. In 2014, Mateo Mornar
presented his sculpture and in 2015 Manuel
Merida gave his installation «Manucroix
Rouge» to the Red Cross of Monaco. In 2017
the piece of art offered by Pino Pinelli to the
Monaco Red Cross has inspired the decora-
tion of the Salle des Etoiles.

In the years following, the Sporting stage was
honoured by such celebrities as Line Renaud
(1975), Enrico Macias (1977), Gloria Gaynor
(1979) and Frank Sinatra (1980). In 1982 the
presidency of the Ball changed again due to
tragic circumstances. Princess Grace died in a
car accident and her son, Prince Albert II, took
over and presides the Ball to this day.
The Gala receives important donations due
to its scope, programme and excellent menu
prepared by the best French and Italian chefs.
A dinner per person costs an average of 1,200
euros. All the collected funds go to the Red
Cross of Monaco Foundation. Organisers claim
to collect about 500,000 euros per year. You need a personal invitation from the or-
ganisers, the ruling dynasty of Monaco, to be About 200 people organise this most beauti-

Numerous guests visited the Ball this year
and Seal performed on the stage of Salle
des Etoiles. This is the Bristish soul legend,
Grammy Award-winning singer and inter-
nationally known songwriter. He released his
debut album «Killer» in 1991 which catapult-
ed his career. In his latest album, released
in 2017, Seal focuses on the glamour of Old
Hollywood. In the «Standards» the singer
brings to life classics made popular by Ella
Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. Moreover, he
collaborated with the same great musicians
who have performed with such legendary
singers like Frank Sinatra, Greg Fields, Ste-
vie Wonder. It wasn’t his first performance
in Monaco, he has already been here with
a concert at Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer
Festival in 2016.
The ball is traditionally opened by a prestig-
ious auction and the collected funds go to
charity programmes. The guests then pro-
ceed with dinner followed by a charity con-
cert by famous performers. At midnight, the
Prince officially announces the Ball open and
the guests are invited to the dance floor. Tra-
ditional fireworks light up the sky of Monaco
late in the night.

ствам. Вот почему Красный Крест получил
столь широкое распространение на Лазур-
ном побережье. Задача новорожденной
организации состояла, конечно же, в том,
чтобы продолжить дело великого гумани-
ста Анри Дюнана, основавшего Красный
Крест в 1863 году. Создавая благотвори-
тельное сообщество, Анри Дюнан в первую
очередь хотел решить проблему оказания
первой медицинской помощи раненым в
битвах или получившим увечья солдатам,
вернувшимся с фронтов. В 1859 году он сам
принял участие в битве при Сольферино
и был шокирован видом поля боя, на ко-
тором остались умирать несколько тысяч
человек. За свою активную деятельность в
организации помощи ветеранам войны и
в создании Красного Креста Анри Дюнан в
1901 году был награжден первой в истории
Нобелевской премией мира.
