The Great February Festivals Are Back for 2022 . Nice Carnival and Menton Lemon Festival

If Covid had the effect of dampening spirits in 2020 and in 2021 when some of our cherished festivals took a hit , then the opposite is shaping up for 2022 . Some of our favourites are back with a vengeance to warm us up in this winter season . Two that many were looking forward to in February on our Monaco perimeters battle it out for audiences overlapping around the same dates . There is the Nice Carnival and the Menton Lemon Festival , both world class not-to-bemissed-events . Both draw a little short of a quarter of a million visitors each and they are pulling out all the stops for 2022 . This year , from February 11 to 27 , the Carnival of Nice was ruled by the King of Animals with his beautiful Queen . The King led the procession through the city streets . And new for this year there was an election of counts and countesses to court the king and queen , and a series of masterclasses that give the public a chance to learn about
the behind-the-scenes goings on . There was a carnival village to welcome you in Jardin Albert I with entertainment , gourmet stands , conferences and shows as well as the ticket office . The Théâtre de Verdure was also hosting shows throughout the festival . The 2022 year edition of the Lemon Festival was held from February 12 to 27 and its theme was Opéras et Danses . An exposition of citrus masterpieces , a golden fruit parade and a night show , the Orchid Festival and , of course , the fair of homemade lemon products were a part of this edition .

Big news in the world of tennis , Monaco resident Daniil Medvedev has just been crowned the world ’ s number one tennis player . On 28th February 2022 , he moved up to the top spot of the Association of Tennis Professionals ( ATP ) rankings . This marked a new era in tennis , as the number one spot has been dominated by the skillful foursome of Roger Federer , Rafael Nadal , Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray for the last 18 years . Beaten by Jiri Vesely in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 in Dubai , Novak Djokovic lost his footing as the world ’ s number one . Daniil Medvedev has won thirteen ATP Tour singles titles , including the 2021 US Open and 2020 ATP Finals . The US Open is where the 26 year old defeated thenworld No . 1 Novak Djokovic in the final to deny Novak the Grand Slam . At the ATP Finals , Medvedev became the first and only player to defeat the top three ranked players in the world en route to the year-end championship title . Medvedev was also the runner-up at the 2019 US Open , the 2021 Australian Open and the 2022 Australian Open .
