Very close to Monaco , in Roquebrune Cap Martin you will pass another 2000-year-old wonder , not on the scale of the Trophy of Augustus but delightful none-the-less . It is a Roman funerary monument for someone important , though of lesser rank than emperor .

On the Via Julia Augusta it is in a remarkable location which marks a special spot that is measured at 599 miles from Rome . The Via Julia Augusta is part of the great network of roads built by the Romans ; constructed on the orders of Augustus between the 13 – 12 B . C . as a link to the Gallic provinces . The road was fundamental in determining Italy ’ s north-western border , but its most important role was to connect people , things and ideas , both geographically and in terms of what was happening at the time .
