pressed by quantity of money. Some people, the more money they
have, the more they want. The majority of people who have money
don’t get recognized in the street, because money by itself does not
win respect. This is the problem with money; you are likely to suffer
if money is the only thing you have. Then you see a person who has
no money, but maybe has five gold medals at the Olympic Games.
Sport is the basis of life.
Sport can change everything.
HelloMonaco: How does the world of sport
affect your day-to-day life?
Mauro Serra: My career is in sport; sports
are my life. The majority of men and wom-
en in sport don’t have a new career after-
wards, when they finish. I have been an en-
trepreneur for 40 years now and at the same
time, I competed in professional sports at a
high level, without someone else giving me
money. I worked for the money to do sports.
Sport is the basis of life. Sport can change
everything.

for me it’s about satisfaction borne from
following my passion. When you want
something, if you really want it, you work,
you know where the money comes from.
Because if your father or somebody gives
you the money, you don’t appreciate it, nei-
ther the car, skiing, diamonds, or whatever.
When you work for it, it’s a pleasure.
HM: Prince Albert is Honorary President and
Captain of Star Team for the Children. What
was his message when he decided to sup-
port the association?
MS: Prince Albert is an example for eve-
rybody, also for me and for the athletes.

sional and a sportsman; he likes to help peo-
