ROSS MOORE
Ross, originally from the Isle of Wight, started playing the trombone at the age of 9. He became part of many ensembles in many different genres. A few years later he was playing everything from orchestral repertoire to jazz standards, marching band music to ska and reggae. He continued a wide range of playing until he left the island. He moved to London, studying for a year at Trinity College of Music under the tuition of Carol Jarvis and started to gig in London. Next he moved to London College of Music, where he studied under Dave Whitson. In his second year he was running a new trombone quartet, big band brass sectionals and brass quintet, as well as helping out with local orchestras. In his final year he decided to switch his focus to Jazz and studied under Malcolm Earl-Smith. He also became Fellow of Jazz for the College. It was in his final year he joined Estrangeiros and got his first real taste of playing with a true latin groove. Latin music now forms a big part of his playing and he cant imagine ever going without Brazilian music in the future.
VICKY OSTERBERG
Vicky is a versatile drummer, originally from Finland. She can play in any genre, including funk, rock, pop, indie and jazz but Brazilian and Latin rhythms are the closest to her heart. She met Helena at the Tech Music School, where she will graduate with a BMus in Popular Music this summer. Apart from her playing in Estrangeiros she plays in several other bands, which are all very different. This way she keeps versatility and variety in her playing. Apart from her work and studies in England she also works with music workshops for primary school children and kindergartens back in Finland. She builds instruments with the children as well as teaching them how to create music out of anything in their surroundings. She is also a part of a Scandinavian TV-series "Mitt Nya Land" (My New Country), which will be launched in the end of March. She is also starting up music camps for girls in Finland to inspire more young women to become musicians. Hoping to get more women involved in such a male dominated industry.
EKATERINA TRIFONOVA
Started to learn music at the age of seven when she entered in music school in Moscow. Last years of studying mostly classical piano, she began to be interested in jazz and popular music, decided to take an extra 8th year at school playing more jazzy and contemporary pieces of my choice. At the age of sixteen, she entered Moscow College of Music C-Jam Club where she had an experience of playing with ensembles, jazz orchestra, developing improvising and learning jazz harmony.
THE
BAND
The band are composed with the same members as the Brazilian Band Estrangeiros”.
Estrangeiros are a fresh and vibrant seven piece Brazilian band based in London. The band is made up of graduates and soon to be graduates from Tech Music Schools and London College of Music. They consist of vocals, guitar, bass, drums, piano and a three-piece horn section. Estrangeiros translated into English means Foreign, which is no coincidence as group members come from Brazil, Finland and even some as far travelled as the Isle of Wight! All of the musicians are disciplined in variety of genres of music ranging from classical to pop, even jazz to reggae. They all, however, share the same passion for those Latin grooves and Blues Scales that are at the heart of Brazilian and Blues music.
