Each issue of the Helderberg News will feature my review of a local restaurant from our Helderberg Basin. It’ll be utterly subjective as food is a very personal experience for each of us, but aims to showcase the best our basin has to offer and inform your dining experiences!

MoKsh almosts gets the Bell – but is just not quite there yet. Even though the licencing was not their fault, a kindly reminder would have saved my husband a trip home. The décor is clearly still being completed with holes visible in the walls. Although coffee was not on the menu, my taste buds screamed for a good quality roast to taper off my sticky sweet dessert – as did my husband’s.

My recommendation: Go and support this wonderful new restaurant Helderbergers

– the food will definitely not disappoint!

The Restaurant Scorecard*

My husband enjoyed a Lamb Dopyaaza that carried a less refined, more rigorous taste and texture: a rugged reminder of the mountainous regions of India where nomads roam and luxuries are scarce. I preferred the Vindaloo, he the slightly harsher Dopyaaza. Yet at the end of the meal we both did exactly what Indian folk have done for centuries – our stringy fresh N’aan dipped the last of the sauce, giggling like little children lost in the moment (hopefully Grandpa wasn’t watching our poor display of manners!)

The Gulab Jamun dessert concluded our meal – two doughy balls floating in syrupy sweetness: a definite No-No for the non-sweet toothed patrons! Coffee would have been a great finale but alas, when in India spicy sweet tea sufficed. The bill: R245 for two dining adults.
