Ministry of Health
Here are some examples and opportunities: In May this year we took the first step to rebuilding mental health support by launching the First Kenya Mental Health Policyto overcome many of the challenges facing the country in providing appropriate mental health services. The emphasis is on mental health promotion, prevention and care for MNS from community to specialized care level in order to attain the highest standards of mental health.
We can all play our part in helping to alleviate mental as well as physical distress in a crisis. Remember that nobody is immune to psychological or mental health distress and crisis. It could be you, your relative, your friend or a colleague. Psychological and mental health first aid is a skill that you may one day directly benefit from and which may prevent the crisis from getting worse, may provide comfort and may even preserve life. So why not support this skill being made available to all.
By Standing up for Mental Health, you’ ll let others know: mental illness is a disease like any other Non- Communicable Diseases( NCDs). It is not a personal weakness or their fault; People with a mental illness are not alone in what they are dealing with; People with a mental illness shouldn’ t feel ashamed or forced to hide their mental illness symptoms and desire for effective treatment.
The media, with the creation of magazine and newspaper health and science sections, health-related television programming, and specialty magazines have helped to demystify many psychological and mental health issues. Advocacy and public education by stakeholders and mental health ambassadors has reduced stigma associated with seeking treatment from mental health workers.
