The liberalisation of the capital market is in turn an important component of China’s longer term objective of opening its capital account. “Interest rate liberalisation would be a key part of opening the capital account, which should support the transition to private consumption-led growth,” says Freya Beamish, economist at Lombard Street Research in Hong Kong.
