A few congratulations are in order
in this issue, and the first of these
goes to club staff Kylie and Wilson
on the birth of their first baby, Lok
Hin, on 26 September, the day of our
last typhoon.
I would like to also congratulate
all those at the Sailing Centre on
managing a host of successful events
over the period including the Optimists
Open, the ESF ‘Challenge Week’, Hebe Race Week and, of
course, the Hebe Haven 24-hr Charity Dinghy Race. The Club
is very fortunate to be so well supported by staff, instructors and
volunteers alike a fantastic effort.

Our dialogue with the authorities regarding lease renewal
has progressed, and the Club’s efforts to provide non-member
access to our dinghy sailing programmes, including those
under the auspices of Sailability, have been pivotal in securing
policy support for our lease renewal.
With the growth in membership over the years, the Club has
added support facilities, by way of container offices and areas
under awnings, to overcome the very limited building areas
contained in our lease provisions. We are in discussion with
the authorities to manage a transition from the current facilities
towards better-designed and lease-compliant extensions to
the Club for the future.
The Club is also pleased to announce that it has placed an
order for an ‘Access 303’ dinghy for Sailability. These crafts
are the next step up from the ones you currently see at the
dock, and provide the progression to competitive racing for
the sailors. The activity level from this sector of our dinghy
programme is really impressive, thanks to the efforts of all
those who turn up on Saturdays to make it happen.
You will have noticed a new look to the Hebe Jebes, the
result of a partnership with Excel Media Group. Working with
management and the publisher is a focus group made up
from Hebe members, who will help to channel our articles
and act as guardians of the character of the magazine. I am
very pleased to advise that Cathy Delany Hobbs and Mark
Newman have taken on this role.
Finally, to Events: a big thank you to the volunteers who made
this year’s Art Jam, in aid of the 24-hr Charity Dinghy Race,
such a success and we hope to see you all at the upcoming
social and boating events.
Thank you and stay safe on the water.

Lok Hin﹗
Hebe Race Week (Hebe
