I do hope you enjoyed this year’s Lion Dance, held in March
with a lunch buffet. The lions were spectacular and I am sure
we will make this a regular feature.
Here’s looking to sunny and breezy race days as we approach
the summer season. I hope you have enjoyed the Spring
Series—our thanks go to sponsors Jeanneau and the volunteer
Race Officers for their support.
The Sailing Centre Open Day in March was very well attended,
bringing prospective new members and introducing people,
young and old, to the joy of sailing. The Open Day is a great
opportunity to foster relations in the local community and build
support for the Club. Again, our thanks go to sponsors Slam,
the volunteers of the Sail Training subcommittee and of course
our Centre staff led by Manager Rob Allen.
After seven years as Centre Manager, Rob has decided to move
on to new ventures and challenges and we wish him the very
best of luck in his future endeavours. Rob has done a fantastic
job in building the programme at the Centre and with it a strong
team of instructing and general staff.
The Centre is vital to the Club to maintain our ‘centre of
gravity’ in sailing and to attract the new generation and active
sailors. We will be conducting an international search for Rob’s
replacement and will keep you posted on developments.

This, and the high costs of the substation, has prompted
further discussion with CLP and we have decided instead to
utilise a much smaller, pole-mounted transformer as an interim
measure. This will allow us to move swiftly to renew the lease
and thereby commence negotiation with the authorities on new
terms governing future development. This approach will also
give us time to complete the negotiation of new lease terms,
allowing us to properly finalise building layouts and choose the
best location for the eventual substation.

It has been annual budget time again for the Committee and
the pressures of lease associated building costs are apparent.
Unfortunately we have also seen some deterioration in usage
and revenues, in part associated with some disruption to yard
space but also in our bar and restaurant.
