It is Harvest Festival Time at Lakewood Lakewood Elementary is fortunate to have a close working relationship with our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). When we plan events, Lakewood Elementary and our PTA realize that we are here for our students and our families. It is because of this joint belief that the Lakewood PTA sponsors a Harvest Festival and Silent Auction every year. Harvest Festival provides families a time to connect with each other in a safe, welcoming environment. On October 14th, Lakewood had another great Harvest Festival! The weather was wonderful and everyone had a great time. In line with HEB ISD’s theme of being “better together”, the Festival would not have been a success without additional help from our former students and volunteers from Trinity High school. Thanks to this success, everyone at Lakewood is looking forward to next year’s event! River Trails Elementary At River Trails Elementary, we take great pride in our academic achievement, whole child initiatives, and service to our school and community. In 6th grade, students have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership and service by participating in ROARS teams throughout the year. We have our ROARS Day kick-off event in September, where students participate in team building activities, learn about leadership from Hurst Junior High administrators, and find out what ROARS team they will serve on. There are a variety of ROARS teams each year, including safety patrol, marquee, morning announcements, traffic cones and flags, school store, recycling, and building beautification. Special areas inside the school, such as music, art, library, cafeteria, nurse’s office, and computer lab also have a team. Students work before school, during recess, at the end of the day, or after school to perform 28 the duties of their team. This year, we were able to take our 6th grade students to 6 Stones for a day of service, where they sorted over 40 bins of food items collected during the Black and Blue Food Drive. Students were engaged in a day full of hard work, collaboration, communication, and teamwork. We are very proud of the leadership and service these students are providing for River Trails Elementary and our community.
