L . D . Bell High School and Shady Oaks Elementary Team Up

Kari Weaver , the art teacher at Shady Oaks Elementary , hosts a school-wide Dot Day celebration that coincides with International Dot Day . Both celebrations are inspired by the book The Dot , by Peter H . Reynolds , which follows a girl who finds
her creativity . For this year ’ s Dot Day , Mrs . Weaver added a joint art collaboration between her art students and Bell ’ s National Art Honor Society students . Shady Oaks students created and painted dots , and L . D . Bell students created artwork incorporating those original dots . The final works were displayed first at Shady Oaks for their Dot Day celebration and then sent to the high school to use as homecoming hall decorations . This year , Bell ’ s homecoming theme was Story Book Heroes , which was a perfect match for the collaborative art project !

Competing alongside 31 premiere high school bands from across the nation , the Trinity High School marching band earned 15th place overall at the Bands of America competition in Atlanta , Georgia on October 25 .
The band narrowly missed making the finals while earning a First Division rating .
“ We sadly didn ’ t progress to the finals ,” said sophomore Giandre de Jesus Negron . “ However , our performance went well and was definitely the best one we had .”
The band practiced every morning and sometimes after school to perfect their performance . They began preparations in June and started practicing the show in August . “ The practices were grueling and we even had to practice in Atlanta for a few hours before the show . We knew that we had to achieve a high standard , and through that , every success was highly rewarding ,” band director Lee Smith said .
Members of the band bonded throughout the experience .
“ When we found out that we didn ’ t make finals , it was an emotional moment for the entire band ,” senior Yvonne Collier said . “ However , through the shared feeling we became closer and more like family .”
