Music and Movement
in the Classroom

Teaching Pre-Kindergarten for HEB ISD is a privilege, and leading a
specialized early learning class where we mix music and movement is a
blessing plus a lot of fun! Early childhood educators ignite a spark for future
learning and I’m glad to be part of that flame.
I have observed exciting physical, social, and cognitive ability growth in the children I
teach at HEB ISD. Engaging in fun activities -- including dance, balance, and motion
– has improved their balance and large motor skills. Many of our lessons challenge
the students to combine coordination with spatial awareness. In addition, the children have
become more confident and outgoing, and they love to share their appreciation for music,
song, and dance.
Our lesson plans incorporate music and rhythm with activities to engage the whole child. Our
specialized curriculum provides experiences to encourage cognitive and physical growth. Research
has shown that using rhythm helps develop awareness of patterns which promote memory learning. We mix
large motor activities such as jumping, crawling, balancing, and dancing with rhythm and song to stimulate
the brain and body to be ready for classroom learning.
As a mother and professional teacher, I’m excited about introducing new
methods to teach and inspire our young children!
More About Our Music and Movement Instructors:
Michelle Bradberry and Kerry Wilson have partnered with the district
through Music and Movement for the past 10 years. The House Bill 4
Quality Prekindergarten Grant Program provides the funds to bring this
valuable program to all of our campuses that offer state-based Pre-K:
Bellaire, Bell Manor, Donna Park, Harrison Lane, Midway Park, Shady
Oaks, North Euless, Oakwood Terrace, South Euless, Spring Garden,
Stonegate, West Hurst, and Wilshire.
Bradberry is a former elementary classroom teacher and Wilson is a
professional musician. (He plays bass for the Deryl Dodd band, who released
