the responsibility to “ empower [ them ] today to excel tomorrow .” Whether my perspective was that of a new trustee in the late 1990 ’ s or that of the president of TASB , I ’ ve tried to keep that responsibility front and center .
What makes you so passionate about HEB ISD ?
It ’ s energizing to be part of a team that actively lives out its mission statement . The board members and the executive leadership team are engaged in constantly monitoring and improving the system we oversee . The system is a vehicle whose parts function to deliver instruction to our students , and that ’ s the bottom line .
way . The goal-setting and evaluation processes of continuous improvement have allowed us to offer all our students a chance at success that will carry them through their careers as adults .
The teamwork that characterizes our board is one factor that has kept me coming back . HEB ISD is a training ground for leadership , characterized by respect and empathy and tempered by a refusal to settle for less than excellence .
That might sound cold or abstract to some , but only if they ’ re not “ systems ” people . We decided some 12 years ago that the best thing we could do is approach our stakeholders in a quality , consistent
