weekend workshop where they take classes
with notable guest clinicians from schools
across the United States.
Once Suzuki students start reading music
and have reached a high performance level,
they are invited to audition for the district-wide
Elementary Honor Orchestra (EHO). EHO was
started in 2005 as a 6th grade orchestra, and in
2006, it expanded to include other grade levels.
Students meet once weekly to prepare orchestra
music together under the direction of Vincent
Pugh. EHO gives several performances each
year and usually concludes their year with a
judged performance.
The Suzuki Program in the elementary schools
provides an excellent foundation for the district’s
secondary orchestra program. HEB ISD initiated
an orchestra program at Central Junior High in
the fall of 2005 under the direction of Tara Truex.
The L.D. Bell High School Orchestra began in
the fall of 2008. It is now under the direction of
Allison King. The strings program in HEB ISD is
proud to provide opportunities for students from
kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Applications for the 2016-2017 school year
are currently being processed. A lottery will be
conducted to fill available spaces, and notification
of acceptance or non-acceptance will be mailed
by April 8, 2016. Those not accepted will be
placed on a waiting list.
