Lakewood Elementary
Lakewood Elementary takes great pride in working together—students, parents
and staff in helping all children not only reach their potential in academics but
also in helping them to become responsible lifelong learners.
From Pre-K all the way to sixth grade, there is a place for everyone to fit in and contribute to
making Lakewood a great place to be. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students diligently work
on performances for their parents starting from the first day of school. First through fourth grade
students get involved by working on projects, poetry reading, wax museum, and Alamo projects.
By the time students are in fifth and sixth grade, they take on more responsibility through kinder
buddies, running the morning announcements, and working safety patrol. This sense of belonging
makes students feel valued and part of making Lakewood successful.
Teachers understand how important it is to help students feel connected to the school through fine
arts and after school clubs. Older students are able to connect in special areas. In running club
with Coach McIntosh students have the opportunity to participate in the Cowtown 5K as a team.
Every year fifth and sixth graders perform a winter musical show for families under the direction of
Mrs. Maclaurin. Finally available to students in the upper grades is the choice to participate in the
environmental and gallery club with art teacher, Mrs. Yatko.
Lakewood’s PTA plays a very important role in the school as well. Two main events that they host
each year are the Harvest Festival/Silent Auction in October and the Chili Cook-off in February.
They truly keep the focus on the student as they work to support them by providing funding for class
parties, grade level field trips, field day t-shirts, programs for parents, and much more.
It is with this dedicated partnership with families, students, and staff that all at Lakewood are proud
to be a part of HEB ISD and a Lakewood Eagle.
